School of Falconry - AM Flight
Cindy's fascination with birds, especially the raptor
variety, came to hand this weekend at the British School of Falconry in
Manchester, Vermont. We took a break from our fall foliage flying for some R &
R, as it turned out it was a non-flying balloon weekend anyway (a win/win
weekend). After a 1 hour class at the school on how to handle the birds, Cindy,
her instructor Scott and I were off for a beautiful walk in the late fall woods
of Manchester, VT. Scott selected 2 female Harris Hawks for our walk Skye and Gwen.
We started in a field letting the birds get used to the new location. The birds
perched in a tree together waiting for us to make the first move. We started
down a woods trail walking away from the birds. As we walked the birds followed
us flying from tree to tree perching high above us. Scott and Cindy also called
the birds down to their hands to perch at different times. At the end of the
walk the birds went back into their traveling boxes and we drove back to the
school. What a flying lesson this was!
